Workshop Presentation: Ceramics 2.0

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Troy, USA

2012

The Design Robotics Group at Harvard Graduate School of Design conducted a material workshop at the Smart Geometry International Conference - “Material Intensities”. The workshop was titled “Ceramics 2.0” and explored robotic fabrication in ceramic material systems. The team running the workshop included Aurgho Jyoti, Stefano Andreani, Jose Luis Castillo, Nathan King, and Martin Bechthold. “The sg2012 challenge, Material Intensities was intended to dissolve our notion of the built environment as inert constructions enclosing physically sealed spaces. Spaces and boundaries are abundant with vibration, fluctuating intensities, shifting gradients and flows. The materials that define them are in a continual state of becoming: a dance of energy and information. Material Intensities strives to energize our digital prototypes and infuse them with material behavior. They have the potential to become rich simulations informed by the material dynamics and energy flows.”
